As we approach Mother's Day - all of us at PEHS want to highlight one of the toughest, best momma's we have seen.
Sweet Vivian came to us in the middle of February. As we all remember this was one of the coldest, snowiest February to date in Minnesota. Now imagine delivering babies outside, in a shed. This tough girl did just that. A Good Samaritan brought her to us, along with the three kittens she had just given birth to.
Once a cat enters our doors they are given a complete medical exam. Upon exam it was discovered that Viv had been front declawed. At some point in this beautiful girl's life she was taken in for a declaw surgery but they did not do the important spay surgery to prevent unwanted pregnancies. And then she either was let outside or escaped - we will never know. But now Vivian has added challenges being outside- no claws to defend herself and a functioning uterus.
Another important test that is performed on all cats is a Feline Leukemia/FIV snap test. It is a simple blood test that allows us to know if a cat has either of these contagious viruses. Both diseases are contracted through bite wounds from an infected cat. Unfortunately, Vivian tested positive for the later. She is FIV: Feline Immunodeficiency Virus positive. The silver lining in this virus is that it does not necessarily pass to kittens. Her kittens continue to be monitored and tested- with the hopes that they remain negative.
Vivian has become near and dear to all that encounter her. Her challenges in life have come because of human negligence but she continues to thrive and trust. We would love nothing more than for our top notch mother to get a loving home of her own. A home that will pamper her with all the luxuries she has most definitely earned. Because of her FIV+ status she should be an only cat. She could, in theory, live with other positive cats but we are unable to test her compatibility with cats at the shelter. Vivian is also not a fan of dogs.

We all feel Vivian deserves a chance at the good life. A life with naps in the sun, windows to gaze out, a lap to nap in and humans that respect and adore her.
Vivian has been spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccinations. She has tested negative for feline leukemia and heartworm. She is positive for FIV. Her adoption fee is $125.00
Vivian is currently at Chuck and Don's Northfield
