If you've ever had an older dog, you know their charms. No drama. Easy-peasy. Loving, grateful, loyal. No learning curve, just a fit-right-in family member.

Darling Kip Quinlan (11-year-old, Miniature Poodle mix) came to us from an overcrowded intake shelter and looked a little worse for the wear. Kip's mouthful of rotting teeth made life painful for him and his eyes looked like he didn't think life would get better.  Boy, it sure did! The SCCR team grabbed this little guy and took him straight to the vet. Kip is getting used to feeling great and enjoying soft food with veggies.

Kip is the perfect houseguest. He is beautifully trained and circles the door when he needs to go potty. Most of his foster fur siblings are imperious, yet he is friends with 4-pound Eleanor Frances who usually challenges every dog who arrives. Eleanor sees Kip to be the gentle and quiet soul that he is.

Kip's first trip to the groomer led to a major fur redo that required a lot of his patience and bravery. He actually needed two baths to remove the grime and smell. Throughout the whole day, Kip's groomer reported that he gave everyone kisses and hugs like he knew that they were trying to make him clean and feel better. He even kissed the groomer when she trimmed his ultra long nails!

Kip is learning to walk on a leash and is the perfect companion on long drives. He is not afraid of stairs any longer and takes his time in checking out all the good things that life now has to offer. If you are looking for a quiet, loving boy who likes to sit outside and listen to the birds sing, this is the dog for you.
Please check our events page at to find where this dog may be shown this weekend. If you are interested in adopting this dog, you must send an application or email us at prior to a Saturday Adoption Event so we know you plan on attending. If we do not receive any communication from you, the dog may be adopted out at our event prior to 12 pm if the perfect home comes along :-)

The breed or breed mix listed for each dog is simply a guess. The profile software program requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. However, visual breed identification is unreliable. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess. Dogs are individuals.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near Chicagoland... we are sorry but we cannot accept any out of state applications. We look forward to speaking with you!
