You may have heard the sayings, "not the sharpest knife in the drawer" or "one clown short of a circus". Well, I have heard this said about me. I must agree that at 1-year-old, I have a lot to learn. But consider my background. I was found as a stray at a gas station in Carmel. My owner (whoever that was) never had me neutered, nor did he give me any lessons in anything. I am quite energetic and full of puppy behaviors like jumping up or tearing into a stuffed toy. So, you need to consider me a blank canvas. I need training and guidance and patience, just like a human toddler!

The problem is, I am basically beginning to lose hope. I find living in the kennel quite depressing. I do get to go to Barkefellers for day camp, but my manners with other dogs aren't the best, so I have to play alone. I have been at HSHC since December 19, 2017, but it feels more like a year. Some dogs seem to weather the shelter life better than others. I am not one of the resilient ones; I am starting to shut down. Since arriving at the shelter, I have lost 7 pounds. They are feeding me 3 times a day to build me back up to a healthy weight.

I have been very gentle with kids, but if I start to get excited I can knock over little ones, without meaning to. I do not guard my food or toys and I love to get close to my person for a snuggle. If you can look past my lack of education and training, you will find a sweet boy who just wants to be loved. My new owner will need plenty of patience and will provide me with the training and consistency I need to learn. If you already have a dog, we will need to meet to make sure everyone gets along okay. I will need lots of exercise to wear me out, i.e., long walks, games of fetch, running or jogging with you. I will make an excellent training partner for the Mini Marathon. 2/26/18
