Ziggy Boy's video spread like wildfire on Facebook. This sweet 2-year-old Pit Bull/Retriever mix was at a busy Chicago shelter, completely petrified. Terrified by all the noises and smells, he was unable to sleep, and too shut down to react to caregivers. Honestly, he was a pathetic pup. But things are looking up.

Named after the cartoon character Ziggy, who is often down on his luck but still optimistic, Second City's Ziggy Boy is bouncing back, embracing his new life. He lives in a foster home with two female dogs, and gets along well with them but still lacks the confidence to play (this will come with time). He loves walks and attention from his people. Ziggy Boy sleeps all night in his crate and is almost completely housebroken. He weighs about 35 pounds but is still underweight from his life as a stray.

Because of his sweet, submissive nature and his difficult past, Ziggy Boy is a Second City favorite. As with all SCCR dogs, we are looking for the perfect home for him. In Ziggy Boy's case, this will be a calm, patient person who is willing to work with him to coax him out of his shell. Ideally, it will be a home where he is not left alone frequently, as he gets anxious and barks. He is still afraid, but in the form of shying away, never in terms of aggression.

This boy captured our hearts. Once you understand him, he'll steal yours too. Can you provide the right home for him? This golden boy deserves the very best.

Please check our events page at to find where this dog may be shown this weekend. If you are interested in adopting this dog, you must send an application or email us at prior to a Saturday Adoption Event so we know you plan on attending. If we do not receive any communication from you, the dog may be adopted out at our event prior to 12 pm if the perfect home comes along :-)

The breed or breed mix listed for each dog is simply a guess. The profile software program requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. However, visual breed identification is unreliable. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess. Dogs are individuals.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near Chicagoland... we are sorry but we cannot accept any out of state applications. We look forward to speaking with you!
