Oh, Maxine. Maxine of the sad hound-dog face. Maxine of the low-hanging ears, the beautiful black/white/brown markings. Shy, scared, submissive: she is sure to lasso someone's heart.

Maxine may never have known the comfort of a home before now. She is a 7-year-old (best guess) Bluetick Coonhound mix from rural Alabama - a stray brought into a kill shelter. She is trying to make sense of her new situation, a world in which food is given regularly (sometimes even cheese!), where there are soft beds and blankets to lay on, where people come and go. It is definitely an adjustment for this frightened, submissive girl. She spends most of her time in a kennel (by choice) or hiding in a quiet corner of the house.

She does love outside, rolling in the grass, taking in all the smells. Given her past, it will be advisable to keep her leashed and well-secured so she doesn't run off in this new environment.

Maxine weighs about 50 pounds, is housebroken and thoroughly crate-trained. She has never shown an ounce of aggression. Her foster home has children, but she is frightened by their noise and quick movements. She seems more comfortable with adults.

Beautiful Maxine will need a quiet, understanding, and patient family to help her find her confidence. She would do best in a home with a calm, assured resident dog to help her feel at ease. Maxine does well with the two boxers at her foster home and chooses to ignore the cat.

This Southern Belle needs a warm home to weather the Chicago winter. Do you have a calm, quiet home that could use a sweet new friend? Please consider this gentle Alabama hound.

Please check our events page at http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org to find where this dog may be shown this weekend. If you are interested in adopting this dog, you must send an application or email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org prior to a Saturday Adoption Event so we know you plan on attending. If we do not receive any communication from you, the dog may be adopted out at our event prior to 12 pm if the perfect home comes along :-)

The breed or breed mix listed for each dog is simply a guess. The profile software program requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. However, visual breed identification is unreliable. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess. Dogs are individuals.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near Chicagoland... we are sorry but we cannot accept any out of state applications. We look forward to speaking with you!
