NAME: America's Sweetheart

AGE/GENDER: Young Adult (born 11/24/15), Female

BREED: Jack Russell Terrier/Rat Terrier Mix?

TEMPERAMENT: Playful and mischievous

WEIGHT: ~10lbs

HOUSE TRAINING: Sweetheart is trained to use potty pads and prefers them when it's raining outside. Otherwise, she potties outside. She likes to spin before she potties and that's how she tells you she has to go. However, a schedule of every 2-3 hours when your home for potty time, works very well for her.

CRATE TRAINING: Good! She eats and sleeps in her crate.

OTHER DOGS: Good! Sweetheart has no idea she needs someone to advocate for her around dogs. That means that when she plays too hard you tell her she's overdoing it and to calm down. She knows "place" and does very well using place and her crate to calm down when she gets overstimulated.

CATS: Good! She is fostered with cats.

CHILDREN: Dog-respectful children, 12 and older

ADOPTION DONATION: $400

HEALTH: America's Sweetheart is very happy and healthy, but suffers from a congenital neurological condition that causes instability and lack of depth perception. Otherwise she is a typical silly, playful girl! She also suffers from microvascular liver shunts, meaning that her liver doesn't filter out the toxins in the blood as well, so she will require lifelong supplements (Denamarin) as well as a low-protein diet consisting of a prescription liver/hepatic food and low-protein or veggies and fruits as snacks/treats. Sweetheart is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, flea treated, and dewormed. Your adoption donation goes toward the cost of this vet care as well as transportation and general care costs. In addition, all pets adopted from Motley Zoo come with 30 days of free pet insurance provided by Shelter Care.

HISTORY: Motley Zoo Animal Rescue was asked to find her a great forever family and that is exactly what we plan to do!

NOTES FROM THE FOSTER HOME:
Meet America's Sweetheart, a Terrier/Jack Russel Mix ready take on the world with a lot of pep and little human help.

Sweetie enjoys accompanying her foster mom to work where she sleeps in her lap most of the day. She is learning that new people are pretty cool too. When not working the week away, Sweetie loves to watch TV and snuggle with her foster family. She also enjoys walks and hikes with her foster family and their pack of dogs. She is taking Confidence Class at Motley Zoo and is a star pupil. She lives in a foster home with 2 big dogs and another little dog and plays well with everyone, with some help from her people. Sometimes she gets overexcited and stimulated but is learning to calm herself in "place". Sweetie can get wrapped up and overstimulated when the world overwhelms her, but she's learning to calm herself with the help of her foster family.

America's Sweetheart will require a home ready to provide a bit more supervision than the average pup her age, a prescribed diet, and guidance. If your life is due for a dose of spunk, and you're ready to help this little girl take on the world, then she's ready to take over your heart. Contact us to learn more about America's Sweetheart.

All dogs adopted from Motley Zoo come with a leash and either a Martingale collar or a harness, depending on each dog's particular needs.

Welcome to Motley Zoo Animal Rescue. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization that is run entirely by volunteers. Motley Zoo does not have a brick and mortar shelter location. Instead, all our rescue animals are cared for in private foster homes where the animals receive one-on-one care and attention in a home environment until permanent placement is found. Please email adopt@motleyzoo.org and request an adoption application and we will work toward approving you as an adopter with our rescue so that we can set a time for you to meet!
