This Rumor's story is true, and it's not an easy one to share.

Her story begins as a puppy where she was found by animal control cowering in a dirty crate. Abandoned by her owner, it's estimated she had been there for 4 days without food or water. It was clear she had just given birth, but her puppies were nowhere to be found. Animal control brought Rumor to the Humane Society for Hamilton County that day...and so begins the next 6 years she would be in our lives.

Even with horribly painful infections in both ears, Rumor passed all her behavior tests with flying colors. This young girl was smart too! She knew the commands for "sit," "stay," and "come." And even though her beginning in life was less than stellar, her eyes were filled with curiosity, hope, and life.

She was adopted quickly, thrived with her family, but was sadly returned 4 years later when her people had a baby. Rumor didn't handle the transition to shelter life quite as well. She was still the sweet and loving girl we knew as a pup, but you could tell she missed her family. Luckily, she was adopted quickly again.

Two years passed with her new owner, but in February of this year, she was surrendered again through no fault of her own. But this time, after being abandoned by 3 owners in her 6 years, Rumor was not the same bright spirit we knew.

Rumor was broken. She was fearful. She was not thriving in the kennel, in fact, this once fun-loving dog had now become reactive to strangers. We saw a dog who had lost her trust and faith in humans. We saw glimpses of the girl we knew as she'd gently press her body against the cage for scratches through the bars. Still, it was obvious Rumor was giving up.

Thankfully, the angels at Paws & Play swooped in agreeing to house Rumor at their far less stressful facility and work on rebuilding her confidence and trust. They've swooped in many times before, so we knew this was her chance.

And, we were right. Rumor has come so far in the few weeks they've worked with her. She is still unsure of strangers at first and requires time to warm up, so low traffic home is best. She is not a fan of other animals, so her ideal home is one without other pets and adults only.

That light in her beautiful eyes is shining again, but she can't stay at Paws & Play forever, nor can she return to the shelter only to decline again. Time is of the essence for Rumor. It's time for this deserving dog to finally be home. This time FOREVER is the only option.

Rumor is currently residing at Paws & Play. If you'd like to set up a meet & greet, email behavior@hamiltonhumane.com.
