I'm 5 ½ year old 72-pound Millie and here's a glimpse into my life since December 2024 when I came to the shelter as a stray. I can't remember how long I was alone wandering the streets, but I remember how afraid of cars and coyotes I was. At first, I tried curling up into the smallest ball possible in my kennel, I was rough and had little to no manners. I soon realized that the shelter staff wouldn't let me be a wild boy anymore, and I am so thankful.
I have been working with staff and a trainer extensively and learning that an old dog can learn new behaviors. My excitement has mellowed some and I am working to let my happy, curious spirit start to shine through. I can be shy at first as I have been at the shelter a long time and I am still learning that people are safe and kind. I am a very lovable dog, but I can be unruly, play rough and I'm quite strong on a leash at times. I sometimes get mouthy and will put my leash, poop bags and other things in my mouth. Some of these behaviors may change when I am rescued from the shelter and not stimulated by all these stressors. I need a patient, experienced, caring and strong person to help me achieve better manners.
I will thrive in a home as the only dog as I have had no experience living with another animal. I need a sturdy rescue family who will share regular walks and explore the bigger world with me. Perhaps you can help me develop more canine skills and maybe a high five trick. I yearn for companionship and can't wait to return to the life I had before. I hope you have an outside area where I can stretch my legs and play with you and my toys, as being outside is soothing and so much fun. After a day of play I crave a good head and neck rub.
I am ready to run, play and add joy to our lives together. My stunning blue and brown eyes and bouncy ears will turn heads while walking in your neighborhood. I am smart, interesting, an okay leash walker, enjoy being outdoors, and eager to please my humans. Living my best life would include walks with my own family, feeling grass under my feet and becoming fit and trim again!
I am spayed, microchipped, current on all my vaccinations and house broken.
