Meet Drax, a sweet and soulful 3.5-year-old Anatolian Shepherd mix, weighing in at 95 pounds and still gaining back the weight he needs-but already overflowing with love, loyalty, and playful charm.
Drax came into care after being surrendered by a caregiver who could no longer meet his needs. When he arrived, he was covered in fleas and ticks and is currently being treated for Lyme disease and Ehrlichia, two tick-borne illnesses. But despite his rough start, Drax has remained the gentle, kind-hearted boy he's always been-and his resilience is truly inspiring.
The shelter environment has been overwhelming for this big-hearted guy. The loud noises and constant bustle leave him understandably frightened, but in quieter moments, Drax's personality begins to shine through. He adores being around people, enjoys calm companionship, and lights up during walks, where his playful, goofy side comes out. He's the kind of dog who will lean in for affection, take treats with the softest mouth, and look up at you like you're the best part of his day.
Drax is the son of Thor, another gentle giant, and seems to have inherited all the best traits-calm, loyal, and quietly affectionate. He's also done well with other dogs and would benefit from a calm canine companion who can offer him reassurance and friendship as he continues to adjust to life beyond the shelter.
He's been previously neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed, brought current on all vaccines, and started on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives. With the right care and a little time to heal, both physically and emotionally, Drax is going to make someone an incredibly loving and loyal companion.
