Introducing Mr. Kylo, an energetic, spunky, comical young stud.
Kylo arrived to us as a stray, very stressed and confused as to why he was here. Clearly having come from a home, due to knowing a few commands, he really didn't want to be here. We realized that his anxiety and frustration builds up quickly and he doesn't know how to deal with it other that to displace it with getting mouthy towards his handler. We can't blame him though its a hard transition. Kylo will usually 'mouth' us when he has to go back into his kennel when he doesn't want to, or when he gets overstimulated. He has not broken skin and we don't think he does it to hurt us he just has never been taught proper manners and what kind of behaviour is appropriate. He is very food motivated, therefore he is very trainable. He now knows when he goes into his kennel he gets a meal or a high value treat. This has really helped to ease his protests and associated the kennel as his safe place. Going back into his kennel is the only time we really have difficulty with Kylo, other than that he's a happy guy that loves to get outside and go for walks! He requires a family that is committed to exercising him as this will greatly help with his training and his frustration in order to be a chill guy.
We have not introduced Kylo to other dogs but he seems very interested and keen to play. Another dog could be good for him to teach him appropriate behaviour and that he can trust us humans. As long as the dog is okay with a high energy, high drive guy that loves to be in your face, sharing its space. Speaking of drive, kylo has it. If your're interested in agility, lure, barn hunt, sledding or maybe just a running partner Kylo would make a great candidate. This also means that he would be unable to live with cats and other small animals as he has high prey drive.
Now lets talk about what makes Kylo, Kylo! Personality, this guy has a big one, he's loud, he's quirky, he's fun to be around. Whether it's the random zoomies outside in the yard or the spontaneous flying tackles on a walk Kylo exuberates energy and is always up to something. He is learning how to be calm though. It's taking some work but he's figuring out that he has an off switch and can relax. A family committed to training, and working on Kylos quirks is a must, as well as providing him with adequate exercise in order for Kylo to be the best boy he can be. We know he'll make a great companion with an experienced dog owner, as long as you're willing to except that he's a little rough around the edges. If you're willing to put in a little work to smooth them out you'll have a friend for life.
Please call us to talk more about Kylo and see if you might be the right home for him!
