Who's looking for a touch of parsley to garnish their life? Parsley is ready and willing. Like the herb Parsley adds the perfect punch of color to a balanced dish and a balanced and confident family is what Parsley is looking for.
Parsley is a quirky guy. On first meeting he is quite standoffish, and is reactive when approached at first but don't let that fool you! He is a loving and outgoing boy once he gets to know you. He seems very serious as he doesn't show much expression in is face nor does he have a tail to wag, but he never fails to wiggle is butt when he's happy and look for scratches.
Parsley is looking for a confident and calm family. Being a cattle dog breed they can be extremely sensitive and are able to pick up on human emotions very well. If you are anxious/frustrated (especially towards him) Parsley will feel it too and he get very nervous resulting in some anxious peeing. He also anxious/excited pees when you grab is collar or approach him laying down. This has become very minimal and now we only see it when he is super excited that you're taking him outside. We are working on this by being extra calm and not showing any reaction to build his confidence and show him that he has nothing to be nervous about and everything is okay. He has made so much progress and the peeing is at a minimal as of right now. Parsley has soo much more to offer than is anxiousness though. He is extremely smart and is quick to learn. He would be a good guy to dabble in some dog sports, which would certainly help build confidence in himself and his family. As well as to give him an outlet for his energy. He could also make a great farm dog and alert you to any new comers.
In Parsleys previous home he lived with a small dog, he did well with reminders to be gentle. He can be very playful and he is also very independent and knows how to do his own thing. He is a cattle dog so he has a ton of energy and loves to go for walks, he also has a voice (like most herding breeds) and isn't afraid to use it.
Since Parsley has been showing some reactivity with strangers he requires slow introductions when meeting new people. This involves going for a short walk and not approaching him until he feels that you are not a threat. We think this is due to him being insecure and thinking that he needs to protect you. This is how all introductions should be with Parsley for the foreseeable future. This is why we are looking for a confident family committed to learning his quirks and working with him to feel confident and relaxed and safe. A home in a more rural setting would be ideal for Parsley.
