Name, age, breed: Onyx, 3 years old, mixed breed
Likes: Strong toys to chew, walks, opportunities to run, cuddles, pats, treats, giving kisses
Dislikes: People walking in front of the house if he's inside; He can be wary of people if not introduced slowly, recommended meeting outside until he is comfortable in his forever home.
What would be the ideal home? A fenced-in backyard and regular exercise are a must for Onyx as he will look for a way to escape and has a high amount of energy. Owners who are willing to continue his training and work on his manners.
Good with other cats? Not recommended
Good with dogs? Gets along fantastically with his foster sister, but recommended he be in a home with a dog of similar size and energy levels.
Good with children? He is a very sweet boy and has interacted very well with the children he has met, but he is very large and enthusiastic. Recommended for children 12 and up who are dog/animal experienced.
Temperament: Extremely sweet, very goofy, loves to cuddle right on top of you if he can, gives kisses, and is almost always wagging his tail. It is recommended he be given slow, controlled introductions outside of the house, especially with men. He can get excited if not given ample opportunity to exercise, but can be redirected with brain games and strong chew toys.
Motivators? Onyx is a man who loves food and praise
Any commands? Currently Onyx knows sit, and shake paw, and is working on more!
House trained? Yes, though it may take Onyx a small window to get into routine.
Crate trained? Unsure, he has not been using the crate in his foster home.
How long will it take to settle into a new environment? 3-3-3 Rule:
First 3 days - Onyx may be on high alert and unsure of new people. Give him space and avoid overstimulating situations. Let him decompress in a calm, quiet area.
3 weeks - He'll start to recognize his people and routine. Set clear boundaries early and use rewards to reinforce calm behavior.
3 months - He'll feel more at home and should be more settled and manageable. With continued training and structure, his true personality will blossom.
