Name, age, breed: Lou, 1yr, Coonhound mix
Likes: TREATS, toys, performing tricks, walks, social interaction, tug rope game
Dislikes: Being confined for too long, louds noises
What would be the ideal home? An active household that can provide regular exercise and mental stimulation, with people who can commit to consistent walks and training. Additionally, a home where people are around often would be best!
Good with other Dogs? Will depend on the dog - would likely benefit from living in a home w/ another high energy dog that can keep up with Lou!
Good with cats? No cats or small pets. Lou is a hound and it's his nature to chase them.
Good with children? Yes good with kids, though his energy level might be overwhelming for very small children, so dog-savvy kids recommended!
Temperament: Friendly, energetic, and playful
Motivators: TREATS and toys
Any commands? "sit", "down", "drop", and is learning "wait"
House trained? Yes
Crate trained? Yes - but does not like to be left along for too long (so far is use to 1-4 hours).
How long will it take to settle into a new environment? A few weeks. We recommend looking into the 3-3-3 Rule to help understand what to expect as he adjusts to his new environment and family.
Any special needs or traits an adopter should know? Lou needs consistent exercise to thrive and is improving his leash manners. He may pull when excited by other dogs or people but responds well to rewards-based training. He does not like to be left alone for too long, and would prefer to be with his humans as much as possible. Obedience training and a consistent schedule is highly recommended. Lou loves tug rope games, he does well playing fetch and dropping. He can easily chew through and destroy stuffed toys so hard durable toys are recommended.
Medical: Separation anxiety - on medication
