Name, age, breed: Cara, 4yrs, Hound Mix
Likes: Treats, attention, following you around the house, walks, burrowing under the covers, curling up into a little ball beside you.
Dislikes: Being left alone, other dogs.
What would be the ideal home? With someone who is either home often or can come home for lunch during their work day. Cara can be protective and territorial with other dogs, so would best as a solo pup in the home. Would be great in a family home or with an individual. Ideally to a home with rescue dog experience.
Good with other cats? Unknown.
Good with dogs? No.
Good with children? Likely good with respectful, dog savvy children.
Temperament: Medium energy.
Motivators? Treats and praise.
Any commands? Sit, lay down, paw.
House trained? Yes, for the most part. Will have the odd pee overnight if her routine is thrown off or if she drinks too much water close to bedtime.
Crate trained? Yes, for during the day only. She struggles with separation anxiety and will whine in her crate at times, but has medication that helps. She cannot stand being in her crate when someone is in the house.
How long will it take to settle into a new environment? 1-2 weeks.
Any special needs or traits an adopter should know?
Cara has one beautiful eye.
Cara has separation anxiety and is on a few medications for it that seem to mitigate it. She still struggles but it is more manageable with the medication.
Cara has guard dog traits in the house and will take about 10 minutes to warm up to strangers in the house. She doesn't like being approached abruptly either. She does best with slow, gentle introductions outside. Treats always help!
